At the age of 14, Zhen Fei (1876 – 1900) was given the title of the most favoured concubine by the Qing Dynasty Emperor, Guang Xu. Even at such a young age, she was multi-talented and even had political ambition. However, the Empress’s Dowager, Cixi took a disliking to the young woman and imprisoned her twice. Zhen Fei committed suicide by falling into a well. She was 24 years old.
